Alston - Cumbria

A silence
Not outside
But inside
Stillness

Like a stone
Over which
Water falls

I remain
Beneath the river
Furnishing my depths

I love
The little white rose
Outside
My window…
She has withstood
The elemental forces
With all her petals
Intact…
And I have watched,
Deeply impressed,
By her immutable nobility
In the face
Of all winter’s worst
Warnings…
This little white rose
In continual bloom…
I love you little white rose
For being
A true friend…
